Program Delivery Methods
The program uses a blended delivery model, with students exposed to a range of face-to-face and virtual learning.
Blended delivery means some online/remote synchronous and asynchronous and campus classes. Synchronous classes are delivered at scheduled class times.
Campus attendance is typically a block of time up to two weeks duration in any term for lab requirements. More details on campus attendance are provided as students enrol in the program. Campus delivery includes interactive sessions for discussion as well as face-to-face lab instruction and practice with simulated and standardized clients.
Clinical practice components are delivered through preceptored practicum hours in real-world health-care environments that provide opportunities to integrate theory and practice in a clinical setting. Students are expected to travel for their practicums, as practicums can be arranged anywhere in British Columbia. All practicum placements are arranged by TRU. Students are responsible for arranging and funding their own travel and accommodation for practicum placements.
Course activities and assignments are designed to build individual and collective knowledge by reflecting upon personal, professional, and theoretical knowing to create deeper understanding of course concepts. This provides students opportunities to draw upon lived experience and expertise of classmates and invited guest speakers, presentations, for individual and group analysis of clinical decision-making from student practice examples, including case studies.
Graduate-level education prepares students for scholarly writing and research methods. Assignment topics in theory courses are intended to foster engagement with literature and best practice that builds understanding of course concepts and nurse practitioner practice.
